The
National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine did not make any
decision on the Presidential Secretariat’s statement accusing Prime
Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko of political corruption and high
treason.NSDC deputy
secretary Stepan Havrysh said at the extraordinary session of the Council.
He stressed that NSDC did
not make any decision because, in line with the law, this issue may be
put for consideration of the Council only by the President or one of
NSDC members.
“As the statement was voiced at a press conference,
we are studying it, we will make inquiries, and I believe, in line with
formal practice, until we receive the necessary information, NSDC will
not undertake any steps and will not issue any statements on this
issue”, S.Havrysh stressed.
As reported earlier, on August
18, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko`s office accused Prime
Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, his "Orange Revolution" ally, of betraying
national interests by not backing Georgia in its conflict with Russia.
Yushchenko`s deputy chief of staff accused Tymoshenko of remaining
silent to secure Moscow`s support during presidential elections in 2010.
"Russia`s
leaders are seriously considering supporting Prime Minister Yulia
Tymoshenko in the presidential campaign once she ... fulfils the
condition of adopting a passive position in the conflict with Georgia,"
Andriy Kyslynsky said in a comment on the presidential Web site.
