Ukraine's PM urged EU countries to pursue single energy policy


Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko urged the European Union countries to elaborate single approaches to the energy policy, in particular, on fixing gas prices and its transit. The Head of Ukrainian Government claimed during her speech at a plenary session of the Munich Security Conference “NATO, Russia, Oil and Gas: The Future of European Security”.

Yulia Tymoshenko also called upon Russia to join the European Energy Charter, Government portal reports. 

The Prime Minister of Ukraine believes that after the gas dispute, the process of diversification of energy sources can speed up.

Yulia Tymoshenko stated that Ukraine – is a reliable transit state of Russian gas. So, according to the Head of Government, the pipeline passing over Ukraine – is folly. According to the Prime Minister, new pipelines should be constructed aiming at the increase in gas production.

Yulia Tymoshenko stressed that Ukraine did not initiate the gas crisis, Ukraine resolved it. The Prime Minister assured the leaders of 74 countries, present at the conference, that Ukraine would be the reliable transit state of gas and oil
